- James 5 and You -
Last night I was reading James 5:1-11 and realized how important this scripture is for Standers. I know the Word says it is written to rich people but I want you to read this and consider our beloved rebels who for a time are "riding high on the hog". So with your indulgence I will substitute the word rich with beloved rebel and laborers will become marriage partner. I will be using the amplified version of the Bible. I also like the strength of these verses in the Complete Jewish Bible but for these purposes the Amplified is clearer.
V1 Come now you beloved rebel weep aloud and lament over the miseries the woes that are SURELY coming upon you. (2) Your abundant wealth has rotten and is ruined, and your many garments have become moth-eaten. (3) Your gold and silver are completely rusted through, and their rust will be testimony against you and it will devour your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped together treasure for the last days.
Please understand that none of us should want our spouses to come to the place where "it will devour your flesh as if it were fire" or the other consequences God outlines in Lev 26 for those continuing in disobedience but we do not have control over that. It is in the hands of God and the choices of our beloved spouses.
I found it very interesting that verse 3 talks about gold and silver being completely rusted through because as we know neither of them are capable of rusting. I was impressed that even as in the lives of our beloved rebels the gold and silver was phony enough to rust. It looked like the genuine article but it wasn't.
V4 But look! Here are the wages that you have withheld by fraud from the marriage partner who has reaped your fields crying out for vengeance and the cries of the marriage partners have come to the ears of the Lord of hosts.
Glory! Thank You Lord for hearing the cry of the Stander!
V5 Here on earth you have abandoned yourselves to soft prodigal living and to the pleasures of self-indulgence and self-gratification. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. (6) You have condemned and have murdered the righteous innocent man, while he offers no resistance to you.
I don't know a better description of being hauled into a court of law by someone who is into prodigal living where we are condemned and our relationships "murdered". The righteous man/woman has not been able to offer resistance because the law wouldn't allow it. BUT praise God that day is changing just as verse 7 predicted.
Hear this Standers - It is the Word of God
V8 So you also MUST be patient. Establish YOUR hearts, strengthen and confirm them in the final certainty for the coming of the Lord is very near. (9) Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged. Look! The Judge is already standing at the very door.
In my experience and observation of court proceedings these two verses play out perfectly. When a Stander graciously and with the anointing of the Lord stands in court and simply factually states the issues and circumstances of their situation with no malice in the heart the court hears and responds. If there is vicious attack or a display of anger or bitterness the court looks with disdain at the person purporting to be Christian Standing for their marriage.
KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!
V10 As an example of suffering and ill treatment together with patience, brethren, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord as His messengers. (11) You know how we call those blessed happy who are steadfast who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the Lord's purpose and how He richly blessed him in the end, inasmuch as the Lord is full of pity and compassion and tenderness and mercy.
Verse 16b - 18 tells us, "The earnest heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available dynamic in it's working. Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have with feelings, affections, and constitution like ours; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months. (1 Kings 17:1) And then he prayed again and the heavens supplied rain and the land produced its crops as usual. (1 Kings 18:42-45).
I can just hear some of us now, Elijah was a prophet, but remember what these verses say? Elijah was a human being with the same feelings and nature as you and I.
Now comes a very interesting continuation on this subject. V19 My brethren, (Standers) if anyone among you strays from the Truth and falls into error and another person brings him back to God (20) Let the latter one be sure that whoever turns a sinner from his evil course will save that one's soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins, procure the pardon of the many sins committed by the convert.
Never forget you are Standing for your spouses soul. Hebrews 10:26-27 was written to believers. "For if we go on deliberately and willingly sinning after once acquiring the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left to atone for our sins, no further offering to which to look forward. There is nothing left for us then but a kind of awful and fearful prospect and expectation of divine judgment and the fury of burning wrath and indignation which will consume those who put themselves in opposition to God (V29) How much worse sterner and heavier punishment do you suppose he who is in Grace will be judged o deserve who has spurned and thus trampled underfoot the Son of God, and who has considered the covenant blood by which he was consecrated common and unhallowed, thus profaning it and insulting and outraging the Holy Spirit Who imparts grace?
V 31 "It is a fearful formidable and terrible thing to incur the divine penalties and be cast into the hands of the living God."
When we walk into deliberate sin and do not repent there is no more hope because we have deliberately ignored repentance and the forgiveness offered by Christ's sacrifice. God will never leave us or forsake us but God will not allow unrepented sin in His presence. Stander you have a great call. YOU are the standard God is raising. Take courage and take heart. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD. He may not do it our way or even in a way we can understand but He is there for us and eventually will turn things to right. Why? Because God loves our beloved rebels more than we could ever love them. J
