How about a fun tool for defeating the enemy's scheme against you. One that cleverly reminds you to place every situation in your life in God's perspective. And we can learn it from our teenagers.
Some of us are so good at heaping pounds of guilt on ourselves. Sort of a self-inflicted punishment to make up for not being perfect. Internally we hear "I told you so" by the taunting one that wants to keep us walking around with head lowered in defeat. Lower lip on the ground, dragging feet, and wallowing in a tune of "Woe is me" sung in harmony with Winnie the Pooh's friend Eeore. It is one thing to discern that you made an error that you don't want to repeat. It is another to use that error as a familiar spirit to repeatedly beat yourself up in failure.
Did God not say "There is therefore now no condemnation for those are in Christ Jesus" Romans 8:1? Did He not say "Let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin that so easily entangles us" Hebrews 12:1 ? Didn't He say "As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us." Ps 103:12. Hey, we have been listening to the wrong tapes.
So, how do we break this self-defeating habit which amplifies what satan says about us and belittles God's truth about us. When some teenage kids want to shrug off something that is no big deal, they put their two hands out with thumbs crossing, and just the two index fingers pointing outward to make a letter "W", then say "What everrrr" To get that cool teenage sound to it, you say it in a sassy tone, clip off the word "What" and lean on the letter "r" in ever.
We ought to be cocky to devil. We are a child of the King (so easily we forget) and we should refuse to let the enemy steal our attitude of joy. We are going to believe what God says and not what the circumstances or the flesh taunts. Here is how to use the tool. Every time you get an accusing thought coming your way that is contrary to what God says about you, whip those fingers out and say, "What everrrr"
· You left your plane tickets home and you have already gone through two toll booths and traveled twenty extra miles to the airport. "What everrr"
· You didn't pay attention to details and had to sneak out of the opposite gender's bathroom .. again. "What everrrr"
· You came back from a three day conference and realized you had been cooking your iron while you were gone. "What everrrrr"
· Your spouse said and did all these horrible things in the past to you. "What everrrr"
· Your car is giving you trouble so it must be worrying time again. "What everrrr"
Get the message? God wants to draw close to us, but we must empty our minds of what He calls insignificant and begin resting in His truths about us. Not avoiding our responsibilities of taking care of things, but doing them in God's way. He's a not worrying God. He's not the one pointing a finger at you saying "You bad little girl". No way.
Take the incident and put it God's perspective. What will this mean on the other side of heaven? It's just another hiccup in life that you can conquer. Take care of it the best you can and then let the Joy come flowing through. Now that's Power. That's Peace.
Warning: This tool is never to be used to minimize actions or thoughts we know are sinful. Are you thinking improperly about beauty of the opposite sex? Want to do something convenient instead of righteous? You don't "What everrrr" God. He loves you too much to let you get away with it.
So next time you need to battle those demeaning thoughts, whip out your fingers, make a "W" and do warfare.
