Fear of the Lord?

What is missing in the church today, generally speaking? Why is it that we do not see Godliness and Holiness in the church today? What would help all of us in our walk with God? And what is missing in our spouses, both saved and unsaved?

After reading another book on intercession, praying and reading Gods word I want to throw out an idea I think may help all of us in praying for our mates. What is missing that if our spouses had it would make alot of difference. The fear of the Lord.

Proverbs 16b..And by reverent worshipful fear of the Lord men depart from and avoid evil.(amp) Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride, arrogance, and the evil way, and the perverted mouth, I hate. Proverbs 1:7

The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

Psalms 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom... Proverbs 19:26 The fear of the Lord leads to life... What is it we want our mates to do? We want them to depart from and avoid evil. We want them to hate evil and have Gods wisdom and knowledge. We want them to come to the life(Jesus).

For our mates to do that I believe that the fear of the Lord must come upon them. Fear being defined as a (reverence, awe, terror) of the Lord. It seems to me that as the Fear of the Lord comes upon our mates it will drive them where God and we want them to go. Jesus. I also think it is necessary for us to fear the Lord at greater and greater levels. This will drive us towards a more Holy and Godly lifestyle. So that we can truly be vessels of light in this world of darkness.

In the mid 1700s an evangelist by the name of Jonathan Edwards(going on memory) read a sermon called "In the hands of angry God". Now mind you this evangelist read this from his notes. You all know how boring a read message is. However, the fear of the Lord fell on this meeting and many people came to repentance and salvation and was the beginning of a great revival.

From what I understand people under the fear of the Lord actually saw the evilness of their souls and also saw the holiness of God. Kind of like Isaiah who when he came into the presence of God said" woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips;... This coming from the most righteous man in Judah.

I was impressed with this this weekend and thought maybe it would be of help to others.

Keep praying. Kevin
