Unbreakable Covenant

- Merismos is Taking Authority Over Our Minds -

The authority of the believer in Jesus Christ has been discussed where it concerns the spirit world, the natural world but what about our personal world? John 10:10 says, "The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance till it overflows." Being tormented by situations through our thought life is not in line with Gods Will for us but more is in line with what the thief has come to do.

I found that a lot of people's problems come from what's inside our skull and is fixed between our ears. The Bible talks about vain imaginations. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us "Inasmuch as we refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the true knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose captive into the obedience of the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One." The "reasonings" we come up with when we are in stressful situations can sometimes drive us crazy! I think that would be something that sets itself up against the true knowledge of God whose fruit is the fruit of the spirit.

Merismos is a Greek word that means dividing asunder. Gods Word is recorded as being the divider to the very joints and marrow of the human being by Gods power as told to us in His Word in Hebrews 4:12. Like a two edged sword the Word has the ability to divide and bring revelation to why we do what we do in our minds wills and emotions.

Human beings are triune as we are made in the image and likeness of God. We are body mind and spirit. We have been told how to deal with our bodies either rightly or wrongly. In churches we are taught how to deal with the spirit man. That leaves our minds! What a vast place that is, and we have to learn how to bring that part of us into submission to God. Otherwise it will dictate to the rest of us out of submission to God and bring us torment. That torment is like the smell of blood to a shark where satan in concerned. The demonic spirits home in on those unsubmitted thoughts and jump in with both feet. They can mentally eat us alive and sometimes cause complete mental breakdown because we don't know how to bring our minds into subjection to God.

When we have trauma or are in a continuous stressful situation our minds can run amuck causing high blood pressure, loss of sleep, tension headaches and much more. We can quote the Word from morning to night and try to replace these thoughts with little success. We can "will" ourselves to live in peace and feel like failures when we don't. Nighttime can be a horror as our minds conscious and subconscious bring us dreams and sometimes nightmares. These "vain imaginations" (2 Cor 10:5) are of the mind and need to be "rightly divided" by the Word of God.

God gave Adam/Eve authority over EVERYTHING on the earth. We are on the earth and we have authority over ourselves. That may seem obvious but in this time of blaming others instead of taking personal accountability for actions it is a point that needs to be made. The authority over ourselves brings us to Merismos. We must correctly divide the Word about our minds wills and emotions. Then we must correctly take that part of us not lining up with the Word of God and bring it into submission.

As a more familiar example when a person takes authority over a sickness we do it in the name of Jesus. Many times the prayer will follow this pattern. First thanking God for the authority over all sickness and disease, then lifting up the sick person before the Lord for healing. We take authority over that ailment and in the Name of Jesus deal with it appropriately according to the word of God. Somewhere in that prayer is a statement to satan binding his efforts to kill steal and destroy.

That is the same principle we can use quite successfully on our own minds. Tormenting thoughts will leave us as we apply this principle. Try it!

Model prayer-

Father I thank You that I am made in Your image and likeness. I thank You that all authority is given to me through Jesus Christ My Lord and Savior. Right now I lift myself up to You Father God. I take authority over my mind and all it's processes in Jesus Name. I bind my mind to the thoughts will and intentions of God. I submit my mind to the Holy Spirit of God for teaching and no other. I cast aside all negative thoughts and vain imaginations. Satan I rebuke you from speaking lies to me and seal my mind from hearing you. Gods Word says "The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them and they follow Me.' John 10:27. I have been bought with the price of my Lord Jesus and I will listen to the Word of God as spoken to me through the Holy Spirit of God and no other. I submit my own mind in all its aspects to my Lord and Savior for cleansing. Speak to me; teach me Your Ways Lord. I will myself to follow in Your footsteps and bind my future to the future God has for me that is good and not evil. Now Father I ask for Your Shalom that peace that passes all understanding to be with me always. I ask the Holy Spirit to comfort me and that I may hear the voice of My Lord Jesus clearly always. Thank You

This may take practice and the first time I did it I couldn't remember everything so I just said something like, "I submit my thoughts to You Lord and bind my mind to God. I rebuke all evil thoughts and ask the Holy Spirit to bring me what the Lord has for me in Jesus Name." It worked so well I couldn't even remember the tormenting thought I'd had and I tried to remember so I could do it again!

The words aren't as important as the element of stopping the tormenting thought, taking authority over your own mind and determining not to be tormented any more. It all must be done in the Name of Jesus because that is where our authority lies but this works and I share it with you for your edification. Gods Word says that those Jesus sets free are free indeed! John 8:36. To walk any other way is by our choice not by Gods will.

Keep practicing and if the thought is stubborn just keep submitting yourself to heavenly forces instead of fleshly ones. Go forth in freedom from tormenting thoughts in Jesus Name. J
